SEO Basics from the Horses Mouth

Google recently provided a very basic cheat sheet for creating a simple, high quality website. It’s a short list with basic tips on how to design a search engine friendly website or blog.

Laying a foundation for good search engine optimization really isn’t that hard, but don’t let SEO be an after thought. Focus on the following and you’re more than half way there to having an optimized, search engine friendly site:

  • Know your niche market, do some research and select relevant keywords that are realistic to “win” for
  • For optimal search performance, designate one priority keyword phrase for each page
  • Use that priority keyword phrase throughout the page’s content but don’t over do it
  • Implement the priority keyword phrase in the Meta Title, Meta Description, and H1
  • Update your site regularly – a blog is a great way to do this.

Once you’ve got the basics down you may want to get into a little bit more advanced SEO. Google has created a guide for that too. It’s called the Google SEO Starter Guide and if you follow it I promise you’ll be leaps and bounds ahead of 95% of your competitors.

If you want some help understanding or don’t have the time to implement these SEO basics, give me a call or shoot me an email. You can also read more about my SEO services.
